Sarawak Governor, wife visit Kampung Lereng Bukit landslide victims

MIRI, Jan 30: Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, visit flood victims at the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Chapter building upon their arrival in the city today.

Having arrived from Sibu on the second day of the Chinese New Year festivities, Tun Wan Junaidi and his wife proceeded directly to the facility, where 105 victims from 25 families affected by the Kampung Lereng Bukit landslide had been seeking temporary shelter.

The displaced residents were heartened by the presence of the distinguished guests, who expressed concern and support for those affected by the disaster. During his visit, Tun Wan Junaidi also proceeded to hand out food aid donations to 25 heads of households (KIR).

Following their humanitarian visit, the couple visited the residence of Sarawak’s Minister for Transport (MOTS), Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and received a warm welcome.

Their itinerary also included a stop at the home of Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts.

Both visits were filled with camaraderie, as attendees exchanged well wishes and embraced the spirit of Chinese New Year.

Accompanying the Governor and his wife during their visit were Sarawak’s Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and his wife, Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabar.

Also present was Dato’ Sri Syed Hamzah Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Governor, along with other key officials and members of the entourage.

The Governor and his wife are scheduled to return to Kuching the following day, concluding their meaningful engagements in Miri. –DayakDaily
