KUCHING, Aug 19: Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohamad Sanusi will grace the Sarawak-level National Day celebration scheduled to take place in Sibu this August 31.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Sarawak Minister in the Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, said the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Jiwa Merdeka’.
There will be three main events, namely the National Day Concert taking place at 8pm on Aug 30, followed by the Fun Walk the next morning, which is expecting a participation of 5,000 at Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang Square.
The highlight of the events is the National Day Assembly, which will be held at Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), and will feature cultural and special performances from local artists.
“Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang are also expected to attend the celebration,” he was quoted saying when met by reporters after paying a courtesy call on Wan Junaidi at Astana Negeri here today.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Urban Planning Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh; Protocol, Ceremonies, and Event Management Unit of Sarawak (UPPANS) director Hamdan Sharbini; UKAS director Samuel Simon; Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman; and Sibu Deputy Resident Christopher Ranggau Unting. — DayakDaily
