KUCHING, Jan 31: Sarawak’s Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has urged those wishing to contribute to flood relief efforts to send their donations to resident offices rather than directly to evacuation centers.
He explained that this approach would help streamline and coordinate the distribution of aid more effectively.
“We kindly request that donors send food and other forms of assistance to the resident offices, which will then determine the best way to distribute the aid,” he said during a press conference at the Serian Community Hall today.
Yesterday (Jan 30), Uggah reiterated the same message while visiting the SJK (C) Chung Hua Batu Kawa evacuation center (PPS) in Kuching.
He emphasised that all donations from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or any other contributors must be channeled through the SDMC Secretariat.
“For example, in the Bintulu area, donations should be sent to the Bintulu Resident’s Office, which acts as the primary SDMC secretariat in the region,” Uggah stated.
“We do not allow NGOs to send aid directly to victims, as it could cause confusion in the distribution process.
“SDMC is committed to ensuring that all donations are delivered in an organised and systematic manner,” he stated. — DayakDaily
