Sarawak exploring potential collaborations with telecom industry leaders at Mobile World Congress 2023

KUCHING, Feb 27: Sarawak is looking into potential collaborations with telecommunications industry leaders at the Mobile World Congress 2023 (MWC23) in Barcelona, Spain.

According to a press release, Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi is leading the Sarawak delegation at MWC23, which is the largest and most influential event for the connectivity and mobile communications sector, bringing together professionals and industrial players from various verticals related to connectivity, digital innovation, and technology.

Julaihi delivered a keynote address at a luncheon event hosted by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) in which he highlighted Sarawak’s digitalisation journey and how Sarawak has embraced digital transformation with sustainability in mind.


The SDEC luncheon was held to capitalise on MWC23, with the goal of showcasing what Sarawak has to offer, particularly through SDEC, to existing partners, potential partners, and potential collaborators. The event drew 60 people from various industries around the world.

In his speech, Julaihi also emphasised the importance of advancing Sarawak’s digital economy transformation, as well as the provision of telecommunication infrastructure and services, and the development of digital talent and an innovation ecosystem to support Sarawak’s digital agenda.

He invited professionals and industry players to the World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT) 2023, which will be held in Kuching from October 4 to 6.

Officials from ZTE Corporation, Baicells Technologies, SES Satellites, Whale Cloud, Erisson, AirSpan Networks, Huawei Technologies, and others were among the international industry players who spoke at the luncheon.

Among those present were Deputy Ministers of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the ministry’s permanent secretary Jafri Lias, SDEC chief executive officer (CEO) Sudarnoto Osman, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) commission members and officers, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) officers, the ministry’s officers, State Attorney-General Chambers (SAG), Sarawak Information Network System (Sains), Sarawak Energy Berhad, and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). — DayakDaily
