KUCHING, Feb 27: Sarawak is exploring a potential collaboration on the Electro Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF) project with Japan’s IHI Corporation, aligning with the State’s broader green energy initiatives.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, this was a key highlight of a high-level Sarawak delegation’s visit to the Soma IHI Green Energy Centre in Fukushima, Japan, today, as part of efforts to advance renewable energy and circular economy partnerships.
Led by Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, the delegation engaged with IHI Corporation to explore cutting-edge innovations in hydrogen technology, smart community business models, aquaponics, and e-methane development—technologies seen as critical to Sarawak’s energy transformation.
“This engagement not only strengthened ties with Japan but also opened doors for Sarawak to leverage innovative technologies for its renewable energy agenda,” Muhammad said, describing the visit as both meaningful and productive.
He added that the discussions laid the foundation for strategic partnerships in support of the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision for a sustainable, green energy future.
The visit marked the final stop for the Sarawak delegation, concluding a series of high-level meetings focused on enhancing international cooperation in clean energy, climate action, and sustainability.
Among the key members of the delegation were permanent secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datu Abg Ahmad Abg Morni, Forest Department Sarawak director Datu Hamden Mohammad, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Dr Charlie Yeo, and Sarawak Petchem managing director and CEO Dato Mohammad Ibrahim. — DayakDaily
