Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2025 nominations now open

KUCHING, May 16: Nominations are now open for the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2025, a prestigious award that celebrates outstanding entrepreneurial talent and leadership across the State.

Organised by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) in collaboration with the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) and EY, the EOYS aims to honour and acknowledge exceptional entrepreneurial talent and leadership in Sarawak

According to a press statement, nominations for the EOYS can be submitted to SCCI through business associations or individuals, no later than August 15, 2025.

Now in its 20th year, the EOYS has recognised more than 80 entrepreneurs from across Sarawak for their contributions to the State’s economic growth and business landscape.

The EOYS aims to recognise the best in business in Sarawak – the prime movers that drive the State’s path towards economic growth, recognise the success of up-and-coming entrepreneurs, who through their ingenuity, commitment and hard work, have built their businesses which contribute to the growth of our State’s economy, and encourage the growth of SME industries in Sarawak.

The awards will emphasis primarily on the individual’s attributes over the company and will in general, and cover amongst others; demonstration of outstanding leadership – vision, dedication as well as intelligent risk-taking. It will also focus on the entrepreneur’s company milestones, corporate culture, values and incentives, financial performance, environmental, social and governance initiatives, reputation, and contribution to the community that demonstrate the characteristics of a good model corporate citizen.

A strong emphasis will be placed on the entrepreneur’s resilience in adapting to the business disruptions, both domestically and globally, as well as the embracing of modern technology to enhance efficiency and transformation in the business.

Categories for this year’s award are:

  • Emerging Entrepreneur – For businesses between 3 to 5 years old or entrepreneur aged 35 or under at the time of close of nomination
  • Master Entrepreneur – For maintained management excellence over a sustained period, business founded more than 5 years ago
  • Excellent Entrepreneur (Beyond Sarawak) – For running a successful business in Malaysia or overseas

In 2024, honourees in the Master Entrepreneur category included Melvin Ong, Ramina Tadam, Wong Ha Kiang, Dato’ Ismail Bin Suut, Kong Chiong Ung, and James Ling Lee Chuon, while Leong Kia Chun received the Emerging Entrepreneur award.
