KUCHING, July 27: Sarawak Energy Bhd will continue to provide scholarships to high achieving students and its staff to help create more high performance workers for Sarawak.

Sarawak Energy Group chief executive officer Sharbini Suhaili said the company believed this was a worthy social investment because it would generate strong returns.

“Our annual scholarships are a social investment that we believe will generate strong returns. This is our commitment towards supporting and developing potential talent and the next generation of leaders from Sarawak.

“Sarawak Energy scholars will become part of the high performance workforce needed to fulfill the state’s future manpower needs,” he said in his address at the company’s annual scholarship presentation ceremony here this afternoon.

For this year’s scholarship award, Sarawak Energy presented a total of RM8 million worth of scholarships to 57 outstanding students from public and private higher learning institutions and 14 of its employees who are pursuing a continuing education programme.

Sharbini said the scholarship recipients were picked from more than 300 applicants. The criteria were based on their academic performance, leadership in extracurricular activities and their financial ability to pursue higher studies. — DayakDaily
