KUCHING, August 15: About 80 staffers from Sarawak Energy Berhad’s (Sarawak Energy) Finance Department recently spent their weekend collecting plastic and non-biodegradable synthetic material waste at Siar Beach in Lundu.

Led by their financial officer Alexander Chin, the community initiative also formed part of the team’s annual retreat.

“As a socially responsible corporate citizen, Sarawak Energy encourages its staff to give back to the community through active volunteerism. By actively volunteering our time and energy, each one of us can make a difference, especially if we work together as a team.

“We hope that through this team effort, we can reduce the rubbish on our beautiful beaches and encourage others to do the same on their retreats,” Chin said in a statement today.

He also thanked Union Retreat in Lundu for providing them with rubbish bags and Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd for providing a Roll-On Roll-Off container to collect all the rubbish.

The state-owned energy developer and power utility launched a corporate-wide campaign in April this year aiming to reduce plastic usage at its offices and power plants. It also pledged to phase out single-use plastics and polystyrene as part of its three-year ‘Go Green’ campaign to conserve, regenerate and sustain the environment. — DayakDaily
