KUCHING, April 25: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) organised a breaking of fast event this evening at the Masjid Darul Hana to foster closer relationships and give back to those in need.

SEB group chief executive officer (CEO) Datu Sharbini Suhaili hosted the event, which returned after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with Sarawak’s Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi as the guest of honour.

“As we look forward to finally celebrating Raya with our loved ones and friends, I understand that SEB’s technical team and contractors will continue to be on alert and 24-hour standby for quick restoration in the event of a supply interruption,” said Julaihi in his speech.

Julaihi went on to say that SEB has played an important role in Sarawak’s development agenda since its beginning, benefiting the people of Sarawak.

“Therefore, SEB will continue to play an important role in Sarawak’s development efforts and make Sarawak a regional powerhouse in Southeast Asia through interconnection efforts starting with the Borneo Grid and then the ASEAN Grid.

“We have been exporting energy to West Kalimantan in the Borneo region since 2016, and we recently signed an agreement to supply electricity to Sabah, which is expected to begin at the end of 2023.

“Furthermore, negotiations are currently underway with Brunei as well,” he added.

During the event, Julaihi and Sharbini handed out contributions to the management committees of local surau, charitable organisations, and schools.

The representatives who received the contributions were from Masjid Darul Islam, Masjid Pelabuhan, Masjid Darul Hana, Surau Raudzatussalihin, Surau Darul Salihin, Surau Hayatul Islam, Surau Al-Kornia, Surau Darul Islah, Baiturrahmah Hidayah Centre Ikram, and Maahad Tahfiz Raudhatul Jannah.

Also present were Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications Sarawak Electricity Supply Division director Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, SEB senior vice president for contract and procurement Sulaiman Abdul Hamid, SEB vice president for distribution Yusri Safri, and the members of the SEB senior management team. — DayakDaily
