Sarawak detects new ‘Satok Market’ cluster today

KUCHING, July 28: Sarawak reported one new cluster today, called the Satok Market cluster, after identifying four Covid-19 cases comprising traders.

With this, Sarawak now has 10 active clusters, with nine in Kuching and one in Bintulu.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman said the latest Satok Market cluster was detected from active screening activities by the state Health Department.


“On July 25 and 26, active screening for Covid-19 were conducted at Satok Market involving 229 people. Of the total screened, four were found positive rT-PCR on July 27. All the four cases did not show any sign or symptoms,” Uggah said at a press conference today.

All the patients are being treated at Sarawak General Hospital.

The authorities are still investigating to identify the case index and contact tracing efforts are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the other nine active clusters in Sarawak are the Engineering Company Cluster, Mambong Cluster, medical Centre Cluster, Jupiter Cluster, Stutong Market Cluster, Kuching Jetty Cluster, Sentosa Cluster, Melbourne PUI Cluster, and Kuching Construction Company Cluster.—DayakDaily
