KUCHING, May 7: It was a proud and surreal moment for Sarawak-born menswear designer Dickson Lim when he spotted his bespoke creation on one of the world’s biggest fashion stages, the 2026 Met Gala in New York.

According to The Rakyat Post and Business Today, Lim’s sharply tailored black suit was worn by Ty Hunter, the renowned celebrity stylist behind global pop icon Beyoncé.

Images of Hunter alongside Beyoncé quickly gained international attention, even landing on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, leaving Lim both stunned and deeply proud.

According to Icon, Hunter had reached out to Lim weeks before the Met Gala, expressing his wish to wear one of Lim’s designs to fashion’s most prestigious night.

Lim said Hunter had been a strong supporter since the launch of his first collection, with both sharing a deep appreciation for discipline, hard work, and meticulous attention to detail.

For Lim, the invitation alone was already beyond anything he had imagined. Seeing his work not only on the Met Gala red carpet but also featured in global media coverage elevated the moment to something almost unreal.

The exposure extended far beyond the event itself. A photograph of Beyoncé and Hunter, featuring Hunter in Lim’s suit, appeared on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, giving the design visibility far beyond the fashion world.

Coming from Kuching, Lim said the international fashion scene once felt distant and almost inaccessible. To now see his creation showcased at the Met Gala and featured on a major global publication felt like a full-circle moment.

Beyond the spotlight, Lim views the experience as a reminder that geography is no longer a barrier in fashion. For him, success is less about where one starts and more about where talent, timing, and the right collaborations can lead.

Lim’s designs have previously been worn by a string of international personalities, including The Sandman actor Mason Alexander Park, Taiwanese star Kuan-Ting Liu, American rapper 24kGoldn, influencer Bretman Rock, and TikTok personality and film correspondent Reece Feldman, who wore his work on the Oscars 2023 red carpet. — DayakDaily
