16yo student dies after suspected electrocution while taking ablution water at Daro school

DARO, May 7: A 16-year-old male student died after he was believed to have been electrocuted while taking ablution water at a secondary school here last night (May 6).

In a TVS news, Matu Daro District Police chief, Deputy Superintendent Rahim Mihos, said police received a report of the incident from the school at about 8pm.

He said the incident involved three male secondary school students.

“One of the victims, a 16-year-old Form Four student, was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“Another victim, a 15-year-old Form Three student, was rushed to Daro Hospital for treatment before being referred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sibu Hospital.

“A third 15-year-old student was unharmed,” he said in a statement today.

He added that Sarawak Energy through Sesco was immediately alerted to cut off the electricity supply and ensure the area was safe.

The victim’s body has been sent to Daro Hospital for further action.

Rahim said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident. — DayakDaily
