Sarawak declares a new Covid-19 cluster in Julau-Nanga Lijan Cluster

KUCHING, Feb 11: Rumah Banyang longhouse in Julau, Sarikei, has been identified as the latest Covid-19 cluster in Sarawak after a total of 40 new positive Covid-19 cases were reported.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the community cluster is identified as the Nanga Lijan Cluster, where it involved a close contact in a workplace in Sibu supermarket.


“The index case to this cluster is from case number 5,008, who is a local man detected through symptomatic screening test in Julau Health clinic on Feb 1, 2021, after having fever and coughing since Jan 27 this year,” it said.

SDMC noted following the detected case in the longhouse, the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) was implemented for 14-days beginning on Feb 8 2021, until Feb 21, 2021.

It disclosed an active case detection (ACD) at the longhouse has resulted in detecting an additional 22 cases.

“As of Feb 11, 2021, at 12 pm, a total of 116 individuals has been screened, where 23 of them were found to be positive for Covid-19 (including 17 new cases today), 53 others are negative, and 40 other individuals still pending test results,” the statement added. –DayakDaily.
