KUCHING, Dec 10: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) has accepted the decision by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to exclude its MPs from the Federal Cabinet for the sake of a more stable government, says its chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
“I congratulate all who have been appointed as deputy ministers and wish them every success in their endeavours to bring progress to the country.
“I am thankful to the Prime Minister who contacted me last night before the announcement, explaining the delicate situation of the present political landscape in the country and the request by certain quarters for the exclusion of DAP Sarawak MPs from the posts.
“We understand that under the present circumstances, national interest of political stability and a stronger government rises above all personal interest and position,” he said in a statement today.
Chong therefore urged Sarawak DAP members and supporters not to be disappointed and dismayed about the current arrangement.
He said all elected MPs representing Sarawak DAP would continue to play their roles as the backbenchers of the government and voice out for the people of Sarawak.
“We will do our best to provide the necessary check and balance in Parliament and to ensure that the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance are complied with by the ministries and government agencies,” he added.
Sarawak DAP will be having a meeting tomorrow (Dec 11) to deliberate on the party’s direction for the next five years. A press conference will be held at 1pm after the meeting. — DayakDaily
