KUCHING, Dec 2: The Sarawak Craft Council (SCC) has carved its name in history by securing a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the ‘Largest Participation in a Bead Craft Making Event’ during an inspiring gathering at tHe Spring Shopping Mall yesterday (Dec 1).
The event brought together 274 bead craft enthusiasts, each contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Sarawak’s beadwork heritage. Participants ranged from beginners to skilled artisans, all united by their shared passion for the art form.
Gracing the event was Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Snowdan Lawan, who officiated the milestone-setting occasion.
According to a press release, the bead crafting session began at 2.15pm, with participants either bringing their own bead kits or purchasing materials onsite. The initiative emphasised creativity and personalisation while highlighting Sarawak’s beadwork legacy and promoting community engagement.
The record-breaking event was a highlight of the BorneoCraft Global Expo and Conference 2024 (BCG2024), which aims to position Sarawak as a global hub for crafts and cultural exchanges. The expo includes diverse activities such as workshops, masterclasses, technical visits, and the MasterCraft Challenge, all designed to celebrate and preserve Borneo’s rich heritage.
BCG2024 is organised by SCC with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) Sarawak, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
