Sarawak Covid-19 sees improvement as cases drop to 409 today

KUCHING, June 28: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today has dropped to 409 following about a month of constant reports at the range of 500 to 600 daily toll.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu, Kuching, Sarikei, Tebedu and Mukah registered 234 or 57.21 per cent of the total caseload of the day.


Sibu recorded the highest of 75 new cases, Kuching 65, Sarikei, 35, Tebedu 31 and Mukah 28 cases.

Other districts with new infections are Bintulu (23), Kanowit (23), Miri (22), Song (12), Kapit (11), Telang Usan (10), Saratok (9), Sri Aman (9), Lubok Antu (8), Tatau (8), Subis (7), Samarahan (7), Sebauh (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Pakan (4), Simunjan (2), Betong (2), Selangau (2), Lundu (1), Tanjung Manis (1), Bau (1), Meradong (1), Serian (1) and Pusa (1).

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak now stands at 64,233.

“Out of the 409 patients today, 267 were detected following close contact screenings where 18 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 89 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where two showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 28 cases of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 21 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, and four Import-A cases who came from Indonesia,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported two new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus the death toll increased to 406.

The two victims were aged 76 and 83, one each from Meradong and Bukit Mabong respectively. Both of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

With 523 new recoveries recorded from across the State today, there are still 10,545 active cases receiving treatment and being isolated at hospitals and the Low-risk Treatment and Quarantine Centres (PKRCs).

On the latest update of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 29 red, three orange, seven yellow zones and one green zone. Daro is the only green zone in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
