Village in Telang Usan sparks new Covid-19 cluster with 44 cases and one death

KUCHING, June 28: A village in Telang Usan has given rise to a new Covid-19 cluster known as the Luteng Cluster following the confirmation of 44 Covid-19 cases and one death.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the village is currently placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).


At present, a total of 69 villagers from the village have been swabbed for Covid-19.

Out of that number, 44 positive cases including the index case were identified while 24 individuals tested negative, leaving one individual still awaiting swab test result.

All Covid-19 patients from the Luteng Cluster have been admitted to Miri Hospital for treatment.

Apart from the 44 Covid-19 positive cases, the village also saw one fatality.

The Luteng Cluster is one of the five new clusters of Covid-19 identified in Sarawak today.

The other four new clusters are the Po Ai Cluster in Sri Aman, Blimbing Cluster in Bau, Simpang Koko Cluster in Sarikei and the Jalan Semariang Cluster in Kuching.

While five new clusters have emerged, one cluster, the Jalan Rubber Cluster has been declared coming to an end following zero Covid-19 cases reported in the past 28 days.

Statewide, however, there are 97 Covid-19 clusters which are still active in Sarawak.

Out of the 97 clusters, 16 clusters reported 90 new cases of coronavirus while the balance of 81 clusters did not report new cases. — DayakDaily
