Potential super community cluster in Sri Aman accounts for 103 of 409 cases in Sarawak

KUCHING, June 28: A potential super community cluster has been detected in Po Ai of Sri Aman, after registering a total of 103 Covid-19 cases, a quarter of the State’s 409 new cases reported today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update, the Po Ai Cluster involves residents of four longhouses which have been since placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

“A total of 330 individuals have been screened, with 103 Covid-19 cases detected including the index case, while 51 cases still waiting for laboratory test results, and 176 other cases returned negative,” it said in a statement today.


All of the positive cases were admitted to Sri Aman Hospital and the quarantine and low-risk patient treatment centre (PKRC) in Sri Aman for isolation and further treatment.

In the same statement, SDMC revealed a new cluster dubbed the Blimbing Cluster was also detected in Kampung Blimbing of Krokong in Bau.

Out of 47 individuals who have been screened, a total of 22 cases tested positive for Covid-19, including the index case, with seven cases still awaiting test results, and 18 people confirmed negative.

All positive cases from the cluster have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Bau Hospital, and the quarantine and low-risk patient treatment centre (PKRC) in Bau district.

Meanwhile, SDMC said one new cluster was also detected in Sarikei and has been dubbed the Simpang Koko Cluster. It involves four longhouses which are now under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) implementation.

A total of 140 individuals from the cluster have been screened, and 59 cases have tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, while 81 cases tested negative.

All positive cases from the cluster have been admitted to Sarikei Hospital and the quarantine and low-risk patient treatment centre (PKRC) in Sarikei district for treatment and isolation. — DayakDaily
