KUCHING, March 6: Sarawak continues to strengthen its cross-border tourism industry through strategic cooperation with companies and countries across Borneo, says Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He said this during the Launch and Handover Ceremony of Scania New Bus Generation (NBG) Euro 5 today.
In a news report by TVS, Abdul Karim stated that the effort aims to enhance accessibility and transportation facilities for tourists from abroad, particularly Indonesia.
He pointed out that one of the main challenges faced in promoting cross-border tourism is the lack of efficient public transportation, especially buses.
“There is a significant gap in the transportation system between the two countries, where buses from Sarawak are not allowed to enter Indonesia, while Indonesian innovation buses can enter the Sarawak area.
“This transportation issue needs to be resolved immediately. We need a better transportation ecosystem to ensure that tourists can enjoy a comfortable and easy journey between the two countries.
“This is an important component in strengthening the cross-border tourism industry,” he said through a speech read by Dr Elena Gregoria Chai, Principal Assistant Secretary of Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts of Sarawak.
According to Abdul Karim, his ministry is also working to improve the provision of public transport and other facilities across the region to support major events and more sustainable tourism activities.
“Collaboration with travel agents and other stakeholders will play an important role in achieving this goal,” he was quoted as saying. – DayakDaily
