KUCHING, March 30: The Sarawak government remains committed to expanding its road infrastructure, with major projects like the Sarawak Coastal Road and Sarawak Trunk Road progressing steadily to enhance connectivity and support the State’s development.

Sarawak’s Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas shared in his Hari Raya 2025 message today that the Sarawak Coastal Road is now 78 per cent complete and is expected to be fully ready by 2027 while the progress of the Sarawak Trunk Road, which has surpassed 30 per cent completion, is on track for full completion by 2028.

“A good road network not only facilitates movement between urban and rural areas but also stimulates rural development. These projects greatly benefit the people, especially during the festive season, making travelling to their hometowns easier, more comfortable, and cost-effective,” he said.

Spanning 896 kilometres, the Sarawak Coastal Road connects Kota Samarahan to Miri, while the Second Trunk Road, spanning 225 kilometers, starts from the Batang Samarahan Bridge to the Roban Interchange before connecting with the Pan Borneo Highway.

Both of these projects, valued at RM11 billion – including RM5.9 billion for the construction of 16 bridges, are fully funded by Sarawak itself, demonstrating the State’s capability in developing its infrastructure independently.

Sarawak also witnessed the launch of various major infrastructure projects, including the Jepak Bridge in Bintulu and Sungai Rajang Bridge in Sarikei.

By the end of this year, Uggah, who is also Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, shared that 11 bridges are set to open, followed by another four scheduled for completion next year

“This demonstrates the GPS government’s commitment to improving connectivity between urban and rural areas in Sarawak, while ensuring the comfort of the people remains a priority,” he said.

In his festive message, Uggah also wished everyone celebrating a Selamat Hari Raya.

“Let us together strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, tolerance, and unity among our multi-cultural people of Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said.

“On this blessed day, let us steer clear of sensitive issues such as religious extremism and racism that can jeopardise our harmony and unity.

“May this celebration bring blessings, health, and happiness to us all. Salam Aidilfitri.” – DayakDaily
