KUCHING, Oct 7: The upcoming Sarawak Budget 2026 will prioritise infrastructure development, with significant allocations also expected for housing and healthcare services.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that the State’s progress should not be viewed solely through the lens of social services but also through efforts to strengthen fundamental facilities and public infrastructure.

“(Datuk Amar) Dr Sim Kui Hian (Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government) wants the Sarawak Cancer Centre to be completed quickly so that our health services can be further enhanced,” he told reporters.

Abang Johari was met after officiating the Prospectus Launch of Insights Analytics Berhad at the Hikmah Exchange Convention Centre here today.

The Sarawak Budget 2026 will be tabled during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting in November.

Commenting on the recent dissolution of the Sabah Legislative Assembly, Abang Johari said it was part of the democratic process.

“I wish all the best for them,” he said, expressing hope that the upcoming elections in Sabah would proceed smoothly and that campaigning would be conducted in a professional manner.

When asked if Sarawak leaders would participate in the campaign, Abang Johari replied briefly, “We will see.”

The 16th Sabah Legislative Assembly has been officially dissolved, setting the stage for the 17th state election, which must be held within 60 days, by Dec 5, 2025.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution during a televised press conference in Kota Kinabalu on Monday (Oct 6), following an audience earlier that morning with Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman, who consented to the move as the assembly’s five-year term approached its expiry.

With the dissolution, all 73 elected assembly seats will now be open for contest in the forthcoming state polls. — DayakDaily
