KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sarawak government will provide annual financial assistance ranging from RM250 to RM800 for Sarawakians in the low-income group.
In announcing this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new initiative called Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) aims to alleviate the financial burden of the people.
According to him, eligible recipients must be Sarawakians residing in Sarawak.
āThe eligibilities are household income of RM5,000 and below and will receive assistance worth RM800; senior citizens without partners and children with income of RM5,000 and below will receive assistance worth RM400; while single persons with income of RM2,500 and below will receive assistance worth RM250.
āThe assistance will help them to purchase basic food items such as rice, flour and cooking oil,ā he said when tabling Sarawak Budget 2025 at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
He said the Sarawak government under his administration will allocate RM450 million next year for this purpose which will benefit not less than 850,000 recipients.
āWith this assistance, I may say, everyone will have food on their table and notwithstanding this, most of the recipients of SKAS will also be receiving financial contributions from the Federal government under Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR),ā he added. ā DayakDaily
