Sarawak-based SUPP will always be with the rakyat assures Dr Sim

KUCHING, May 6: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian assured Sarawakians that if Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak wins in the election (GE14), its elected representatives and leaders will go down to the ground and be with the rakyat at all times.

This, he added, would be unlike Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders who would only come down to the ground seasonally especially during election season.

Dr Sim, who is also SUPP candidate for Stampin, said his party being a Sarawak-based party has its representatives and leaders coming from the grassroots of Sarawak, unlike PH where their peninsula-based leaders only come to speak during election ‘ceramah’ then are nowhere to be seen after election.

“We (SUPP) groom and give opportunities to local Sarawakians (in our party). Not ad hoc only, like them (PH) who only come when they feel like coming.

“I urge members of the opposition to come join us SUPP because it’s a fact that only BN Sarawak can make a difference and be part of the federal government,” he said during the party’s daily GE14 press conference at its Batu Kawah branch this afternoon.

Dr Sim said back when the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem was still alive, he saved SUPP before it was threatened with deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) back in 2014 because Adenan had faith in SUPP to lead the Chinese community of Sarawak.

“Adenan saved us because he believed in us. Without the rakyat of Batu Kawah who elected me as their state representative, I would not be minister now. I often go down to ground to see my rakyat. I assured them I am here with them at all times. If Stampin (parliamentary constituency) votes for me, I will be there for them too.

“Please do not lose your opportunities for the Sarawak Chinese community. PH doesn’t fight for you locally. Please think carefully if you want your (Chinese) voices in Parliament and Putrajaya to be heard,” said Dr Sim.

He also reminded constituents that it would be hard for PH to change the Sarawak BN government because they would need to win at least 25 other Bumiputera seats in Sarawak.

“They cannot change the government unless BN Sarawak loses 25 Bumiputera seats. So Sarawak Chinese, do you want to lose your voice or not? Being sidelined again under PH?” he asked.

Also present at the press conference were SUPP candidate for Bandar Kuching Kho Teck Wan and SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman Wilfred Yap. — DayakDaily
