Sarawak bags 143 medals, finishes fourth at Sukma Selangor 2026

KUCHING, Aug 25: Sarawak wrapped up its campaign at the Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) XXII Selangor 2026 in fourth place overall as the 10-day national sporting spectacle officially drew to a close yesterday (Aug 24), finishing with a haul of 41 gold, 40 silver and 62 bronze medals for a total of 143 medals.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), host state Selangor emerged as overall champion after dominating the medal standings with 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals, amassing 245 medals in total.

Wilayah Persekutuan secured second place with 51 gold, 54 silver and 52 bronze medals for an overall tally of 157 medals, while Terengganu finished third with 43 gold, 44 silver and 36 bronze medals, collecting 123 medals.

The closing ceremony featured the presentation of the Best Female Athlete Award, Best Male Athlete Award and Overall Champion Award, recognising outstanding performances throughout the Games.

The ceremony culminated with a Royal Address and the official declaration of the closure of Sukma XXII Selangor 2026, marking the end of the 22nd edition of the nation’s biennial multi-sport Games.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

Leading the Sarawak contingent at the ceremony was Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development and Sarawak Chef de Mission, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

Held from Aug 15 to 24, Sukma 2026 brought together more than 12,000 athletes and officials from contingents across Malaysia, including Brunei Darussalam, with competitions staged at venues throughout Selangor.

Following the conclusion of the Selangor edition, Kelantan will host the next Sukma in 2028. — DayakDaily
