BAU, Aug 25: Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep has announced an allocation of RM100,000 for the construction of an Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation memorial in Kampung Stass, aimed at honouring the sacrifices and contributions of security personnel and veterans who served during the conflict.
He said the memorial is expected to be built next year, subject to the completion of its design and cost assessment.
“Once the design and cost estimates are finalised, we can review and discuss the overall expenditure,” he said at the National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association (NMBVAA) Stass Branch Reunion Dinner – Operation Hornbill 2026 held here on Sunday night (Aug 23) as reported by TVS.
The allocation was announced following a proposal by organising committee chairman and community leader Kisi Nyowip, who called for a memorial to preserve the history of the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation and recognise the sacrifices of veterans involved.
Henry said the memorial would serve as an important historical landmark and expressed hope that former servicemen, particularly NMBVAA members and their families, would return to Bau to visit the site once it is completed.
During the event, he also presented grants channelled through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), comprising RM200,000 for the Borneo Evangelical Mission Church in Kampung Serasot and RM240,000 for St Mark’s Church in Stass. — DayakDaily
