MCC lines up open day, dinner to celebrate Miri City’s 18th anniversary of achieving city status

MIRI, May 10: Miri City is celebrating its 18th anniversary of achieving city status this May 20 and Miri City Council (MCC) is all geared up to commemorate the milestone.

With ’18 Going-International’ as this year’s tagline, MCC is focusing on strengthening its foreign relations to promote Miri’s tourism offerings abroad.


“To kick start the celebration, we have arranged Miri City’s open day on May 20 at the ground floor of the City Hall in Marina Park here,” disclosed MCC Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang in a press conference here today (Wednesday).

The programme will open at 9am with a flag-raising ceremony and proceed with various performances including singing.

“Various booths selling food and beverages will be available during the event besides highlighting services available at MCC,” Yii disclosed.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the event.

“On the evening of May 20, we will host a reception dinner at Pullman Hotel Miri which will be attended by foreign dignitaries,” Yii added.

To mark the closure of the anniversary celebration, a dinner has been arranged to be held on May 28 with Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as the guest-of-honour.

“The closing dinner (on May 28) is scheduled to be held at Eastwood Golf and Country Club,” Yii said.

Also present during today’s press conference was MCC secretary Abdul Rahman Taupek. — DayakDaily
