DARO, Feb 22: The Sarawak government has approved RM35 million under the People’s Project initiative to develop the Daro Waterfront, aiming to transform Daro District into a vibrant recreational and economic hub.
According to a press release, the project is set to commence in April 2025 and is expected to be completed by March 2027.
Spanning 410 metres along the riverbank and covering 4.25 acres, the waterfront will feature modern facilities designed to attract both locals and tourists.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the project today.
During the event, he received a briefing from the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage on the planned riverbank development.
Key components of the project include riverbank erosion control structures, an information centre, an observation tower, pergolas, an outdoor gym, an amphitheatre, and lock-up stalls.
With its strategic location and enhanced amenities, the Daro Waterfront is expected to boost tourism and create new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Among the distinguished guests present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohammad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad. — DayakDaily
