KUCHING, Dec 24: A total of RM23 million has been allocated for the 2025 intake of the Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak—Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP), which will support 1,000 interns or graduates with an RM1,500 monthly allowance.

In a media release today, Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (Scope), a wholly owned subsidiary by Yayasan Sarawak, highlighted that the programme underscores the Sarawak government’s commitment to youth development and workforce readiness, preparing graduates for both local and global opportunities.

GETS-WRP aims to equip Sarawakian graduates with the essential skills, knowledge, and work experience necessary for a seamless transition into the workforce.

This comprehensive 12-month on-the-job training initiative is designed to help participants develop practical skills across various industries. Interns will have the opportunity to work in both the public and private sectors.

The programme emphasises the development of soft skills, leadership abilities, and team-building experiences, all aimed at preparing participants for the demands of the modern workplace.

Additionally, it covers employability skills, hands-on experience, and practical training. The programme also provides a customised and contextualised approach to ease the transition from academic life to professional work, while boosting youth confidence.

In addressing graduate unemployment, the GETS-WRP offers temporary employment opportunities and focuses on long-term job placement by collaborating with both government agencies and private companies.

The programme is structured in two phases for one year. The first phase, the Career Enhancement Skills Programme (CESP), spans three months and focuses on equipping participants with crucial soft skills and work-readiness knowledge.

The second phase involves a nine-month internship or on-the-job training placement with one of GETS-WRP’s partner organisations. This phase provides participants with real-world experience in a professional environment, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.

Eligibility criteria for GETS-WRP include being a Sarawakian aged between 20 and 30 years, unemployed at the time of application, holding at least a degree with a CGPA of 2.8 or higher, or a professional qualification from a recognized institution. Applicants must also pass an interview and not have participated in any previous GETS-WRP programmes.

The 2025 intake will be held in January, April, and July, with the programme administered by Scope.
