KUCHING, May 18: Sarawak continues to be a fertile ground where outstanding workers grow, making vital contributions across sectors and driving the State toward a progressive and prosperous future, said Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.

Delivering his speech at the ‘Sambutan Hari Pekerja Tahun 2025 Peringkat Sarawak’ held at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here today, Gerawat, who is also the event’s organising chairman, said Sarawak’s strength lies in its people, and the State remains committed to nurturing a resilient, skilled, and empowered workforce capable of meeting the demands of a changing world.

“We are proud to say that Sarawak continues to be a fertile ground where outstanding workers grow.

“Whether in energy, agriculture, services, or digital industries, our people are making their mark both locally and globally,” he said.

Themed ‘Pekerja Cemerlang Sarawak Maju Makmur’ (Outstanding Workers Foster a Progressive and Prosperous Sarawak), this year’s celebration pays tribute to individuals who not only excel in their professions but also demonstrate professionalism, innovation, discipline, teamwork, and a deep commitment to continuous improvement.

“The term ‘Pekerja Cemerlang’ is not just about job performance. It reflects the character and dedication of individuals who go beyond their duties, inspire others, and lead by example. These are the people who shape Sarawak’s future,” he said.

Gerawat noted that in today’s rapidly evolving work environment, driven by technology and global trends, it is these workers who continue to adapt, thrive, and act as catalysts for change and progress.

He added that while Sarawak is blessed with natural resources and rich cultural diversity, the true potential of the State can only be realised through the development of its human capital.

“To truly unlock Sarawak’s immense potential, we must harness the full capacity of our human capital. Our outstanding workers are central to this goal,” he said.

Gerawat also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting workers through infrastructure, education, upskilling programmes, and strategic investments that create an enabling environment for them to thrive.

He emphasised that the aspiration of becoming a high-income State under the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 can only be achieved through the collective effort of a motivated and future-ready workforce.

“A strong, skilled labour force drives productivity, supports innovation, and enhances Sarawak’s competitiveness in the global arena,” he said. — DayakDaily
