KUCHING, Sept 15: Saraspice Sdn Bhd (SSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Pepper Board (MPB), has officially taken over MPB functions including pepper trading activities and marketing services (local trade) by directly purchasing pepper from growers, effective March 1, 2022.
In announcing this in a statement today, MPB believes that this acquisition will strengthen the position of the country’s pepper industry as the main supplier of high quality Sarawak pepper as well as being more competitive in meeting market demand at domestic and international levels.
“SSB will continue to carry out the role and function of pepper trading activities that were previously carried out by MPB, including marketing services (local trade) by directly buying pepper produced by growers.
“With that, SSB will carry out pepper purchase activities at five MPB premises namely in Kuching, Serian, Betong, Sarikei and Sibu. Farmers can visit the MPB premises for pepper trading activities,” MPB said in the statement.
MPB also expressed gratitude to all pepper growers and entrepreneurs who have supported the agency throughout its pepper buying and selling activities since 1982.
“MPB believes that SBB will always prioritise the interest of pepper growers,” it added.
