KUCHING, July 14: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched for a 65-year-old fisherman reported missing near Kampung Demak Baru at Jalan Bako today.
According to a report from Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre today, they received a report at 8.05am and despatched a team from Bomba Simunjan to the location.
Based on a report from the operation commander upon arrival at the location, the SAR operation is being conducted together with Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), police, and Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM).
Initial information from family members revealed that the victim, from Simunjan, went out to fish on July 12 at 2.30pm using a boat.
The last known location of the victim’s whereabouts is at the Sebuyau estuary area in Simunjan, based on his WhatsApp text message sent at 5.02pm on the same day. — DayakDaily
