SAR activated after Asajaya fisherman feared missing at sea

KUCHING, April 5: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been  launched after a fisherman was reported missing at sea this afternoon.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the missing person, Hamzah Dipi, from Kpg Sebandi Ulu, went out fishing on his boat at around 1am today.

The department immediately deployed its SAR team after receiving a distress call at around 12.09pm.


“He was feared missing after villagers found his boat and fishing equipment at sea, with the victim nowhere in sight,” the department said in a statement.

Villagers also assisted SAR personnel in their operations within the vicinity where the boat was last spotted.

The missing person is in his 50s. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) was also involved in the SAR operation. — DayakDaily
