KUCHING, April 5: Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob gave assurance that food supplies throughout the country are sufficient.

Ismail Sabri in a press conference today asserted the the public should not worry because the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MOA) has given the assurance there is a sufficient supply of food.

“The reports claiming shortage of food supplies are not true, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) are always monitoring the situation.

“If anyone is found to have increased the price of goods unnecessarily, please report to KPDNHEP,” he added.

Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defense Minister disclosed that any activities and operation involving agriculture are allowed to proceed during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

According to him, to clear the confusion over which sectors are allowed to operate, the activities allowed involve paddy plantation, fishing and other value-added activities related to the food supply chain.

“This includes fertiliser shops, vehicles transporting agricultural goods and products, and medicinal-related industries such as plastics and paper box factory,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also expressed hope that media practitioners are ethical in disseminating news to the public in order to avoid confusion.

“Give out the truth, not just half-cooked or fake news, as it would not help the government in addressing the Covid-19 issues.

“At the same time, I also call for the public to comply with the directions and SOP issued by the government, and continue to remain at home for your own safety. Stay home, stay safe,” he added. — DayakDaily
