MIRI, April 29: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau has announced that several major events will be held in his constituency throughout the year to help boost the tourism sector.
He said amongst the events planned are a water festival and country music festival in Long Lama, a water rafting event in Tinjar, a youth carnival in Long Miri, a culture and sports programme in Long Kevok, a sape event in Long San, and an ‘ikan tapah’ (catfish) event in Long Bemang.
“We want to bring excitement to the constituency and make Telang Usan a vibrant place,” he said at the closing of the fifth edition of the Highland Folk Music and Dance Festival in Long Bedian today.
Meanwhile, Dennis, also Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chairman, hoped the Highland Folk Music and Dance Festival could be included in the Sarawak tourism calendar.
“This is to allow outsiders to plan for their trip to attend the festival in the future as we are also trying to fix the date,” he said.
Over 2,000 attended the three-day festival held in Long Bedian’s multipurpose hall.
The festival’s closing was graced by Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The festival was first initiated by former Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Lihan Jok in 2003 to promote the Kenyah, Kayan, and Penan cultures. — DayakDaily
