KUCHING, June 19: The Santubong parliamentary constituency is optimistic to achieve 70 per cent vaccine coverage as early as August, provided the timely arrival of sufficient vaccines supply to immunise the adult population.

Santubong MP Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar pointed out that this is the only setback at the moment, but he will personally address the matter with Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) Khairy Jamaluddin.

Santubong currently has six vaccination centres (PPVs) and due to vaccine supply issues, it can only administer around 3,000 doses per week. In order to achieve the target, it requires more supply of vaccines to be made available to immunise the people of Santubong soon.

In terms of the rolling out of the vaccination programme, Wan Junaidi said they were very well prepared both in terms of logistics arrangements as well as getting the people’s support and participation.

For this, he commended the elected representatives in the area, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu (Tanjung Datu), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi (Pantai Damai) and Dr Hazland Abang Hipni (Demak Laut) who have been very proactive in getting the people to participate in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme as well as preparing the logistics arrangement for this.

“Fighting Covid-19 and ensuring the people’s safety are our main priorities right now. The wakil rakyat have been working hard in engaging the people and making the necessary arrangements to facilitate this vaccination programme.

“We have made all the necessary preparation for this. I have visited the centres and everything are running efficiently and in a systematic manner. If we can get the vaccination fast, we could get 70 per cent of the people in Santubong area vaccinated by August,” he said after visiting the vaccination centres, here, today.

On top of that, based on special arrangements, Masjid Darul Hana will also be administering vaccine jabs of up to 400 a day for the next two days.

In line with this, Wan Junaidi, who is also Minister of  Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, will be allocating RM35,000 as a token of appreciation to the volunteers who are assigned to help at the six PPVs.

Of the amount, RM10,000 will be distributed to the DUN Tanjung Datu, RM15,000 to DUN Pantai Damai and RM10,000 DUN Demak Laut. — DayakDaily
