Samalaju incinerator explodes, fire brought under control before firefighters arrive

BINTULU, Nov 17: An incinerator at a factory in Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) caught fire and exploded in an incident that occurred at 3.12pm today.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), a team of firefighters from Samalaju Fire Station was rushed to the scene upon receiving the emergency call.

“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the fire had already been fully extinguished by the factory’s internal firefighting team.

“The blaze was caused by an explosion involving a Surnes Heating system, which led to the incident, although no further explosions occurred once the fire had been contained,” the report said.

There were no reported injuries or casualties from the incident.

The operation was led by Elvinas Lai, with three personnel on site to assist in securing the area. — DayakDaily
