KUCHING, Sept 13: The Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone has attracted both foreign and domestic investments totalling RM15.4 billion, resulting in the creation of over 15,000 jobs, with an annual wage payout of RM758 million, and contributing RM1.05 billion to the local economy in 2023.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that the industrial zone has emerged as a significant catalyst for economic growth.
“It is essential that we maintain robust infrastructure to support our industrial players, enabling them to expand and thrive in the region,” he said.
During the first meeting of Sama Jaya Industrial Park Management Committee (IPMC) held today at the MBKS headquarters, Wee announced that the Sarawak government has proposed co-chairing the IPMC with representatives from both the public and private sectors with the goal of fostering strong rapport, mutual understanding, and close collaboration between the two.
He highlighted that the IPMC will be responsible for managing and implementing effective solutions to improve the industrial park’s conditions and promoting long-term sustainability.
“We acknowledge that implementation of the proposed solutions may be constrained by budget limitations. However, we must ensure Samajaya Industrial Park is well-maintained to enhance the its appeal.
“I believe that this platform will promote closer collaboration between government agencies and industry players towards more effective industrial park management,” he said.
Wee also encouraged open dialogue between industrial players and the government to address industrial park management issues.
“The government, including MBKS, is fully committed to supporting and working collaboratively with the industrial players from Samajaya to address those issues,” he added. — DayakDaily
