KUCHING, Dec 2: The Salvation Army Kuching Corps and Community Services has aided some 250 people from 20 families who recently lost their longhouse to a fire in Saratok.
The double-storey Rh Asun in Tembawai Kapok, Jalan Ulu Awik was razed to the ground on Nov 26.
Following the devastating fire, Salvation Army Kuching Corps and Community Services swiftly carried out the first round of emergency relief delivery on Dec 1, bringing along with them essential grocery items and clothing disburse to the families.
They also brought preloved toys donated by members of the public to bring cheer and relief to the affected children.
“We plan to assist these people for the next two months as they need all the help they can get. The families are already living under the poverty line and now they face another hurdle with the loss of their home. We are planning to visit them in January 2022 with additional supplies to tide them over until they have settled all matters,” Salvation Army corp officer Captain Raymond Rubi Aloba said in a statement.
They are currently seeking kind-hearted individuals and corporations to urgently donate items such as dry groceries (rice, noodles, cooking oil, canned food, biscuits), toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste), clothing, kitchen utensils, rubber floor mats, disposable face masks or cloth masks for adults and children, hand sanitiser and one wheelchair.
All items must be in good condition and delivered to The Salvation Army Kuching Corps and Community Services at Jalan Sekama by Dec 31.
