KUCHING, Dec 2: Reject parties and people who only appear with certain intentions close to the elections, Nangka incumbent Dr Annuar Rapaee advised communities in Sibu.

“I serve in Nangka constituency not only during election but since day one (of when) I was elected, (unlike some people who) only emerge for a while during election.

“I know there are many other parties and candidates who only appear for election points. This is something we must reject because we do not want people who only appear with certain intentions,” he said.

He highlighted this when speaking at the launching of Sibu Entrepreneurs Showcase by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sarawak Islamic Complex hall in Sibu today.

If given the mandate this 12th Sarawak Election, Dr Annuar who is also Assistant Minister of Science and Technological Research, pledged to continue giving his best to improve the economic standing of local communities especially the Bumiputera in Sibu.

“One of my ambitions for Nangka constituency is to help the youth entrepreneurs. A group of them have come and approached me and the first step was to establish a youth entrepreneur workshop.

“I must congratulate them as the workshop will become a platform for them to collaborate and network as they are many talented youths in handicraft-making, automotive field and so on,” he revealed.

He also pledged to help an Iban youth who is skillful in painting and spraying cars to elevate his business which is currently based in his house’s small garage.

“I will work hard to realise the ambitions of these Bumiputera youth entrepreneurs irrespective of if they are Malay or Iban, who are involved in this workshop.

“I have always emphasised the importance for the Bumiputera community especially in Sibu to improve their economic standing,” he added.

He pointed out that the Bumiputeras need to remain competitive in a plural society and to do so, they must always strive to be better.

As Bumiputera development is close to his heart, Dr Annuar has allocated funding under his constituency for various projects to help entrepreneurs in Sibu because he sees small and medium sized businesses as generating good economic activities that are able to give consistent revenue to traders.

The projects include upgrading Taman Harmony, NUC, Bandung food court, and Bandung Walk as well as providing 50 free Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) kiosk stalls to entrepreneurs to operate their businesses. ā€” DayakDaily
