KUCHING, Sept 7: Datu Saferi Ali has assumed the role of Sarawak’s Attorney-General (AG), succeeding Dato Sri Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, effective as of today (Sept 7).
Saferi previously served as the Deputy Attorney-General of Sarawak. The responsibilities of this position will now transition to senior advocate Datu John Wayne Chamberlin Sirau, as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today.
The official handover of duties and responsibilities took place at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, with Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki presiding over the ceremony.
In a brief address, Abu Bakar expressed profound appreciation for Talat’s dedicated service and commitment during his tenure as AG of Sarawak.
He also extended congratulations to both Saferi and John Wayne on their new appointments.
Meanwhile, Talat conveyed his gratitude to all those who had supported, cooperated with, and entrusted him during his service.
He expressed his hope that Saferi would effectively carry out the responsibilities and trust now bestowed upon him.
The ceremony concluded with a photo session following the symbolic transfer of duties and responsibilities.
Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Deputy Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik were among those present. — DayakDaily
