KUCHING, Aug 12:  Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) will help the Ibans from six longhouses of Sungai Kelawit to submit a complaint letter over land issue to the United Nations special rapporteur at a meeting scheduled on Thursday (Aug 15).

These Ibans are from Rumah Ah Low, Rumah Bennet Jumat, Rumah Empawi, Rumah Joseph Jurit, Rumah Micheal Ugong and/or Rumah Tandang of Sungai Kelawit of KM16 Jalan Tatau/sibu, Sarawak.

A private company had filed a contempt of court proceeding against these Ibans led by

Ujan Laloh who has persistently built up blockades on which they claimed to be their native customary rights (NCR) land, to prevent quarry activities which are taking place without their prior consent.

Sadia Secretary General Nicholas Mujah confirmed that the letter is with him and he assured the longhouse folks that the letter will be delivered as promised.

Nicholas had brought them to Miri on Saturday (Aug 10) to meet with their legal representative Harrison Nyau who will defend them in the land case.

The case will be heard in Bintulu High Court on Aug 16. — DayakDaily
