LAWAS, April 30: The Sabah-Merapok Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex operating houses have been extended from 6am to 10pm starting today (April 30) as traffic peaks over the Labour Day and Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

Previously, the border control post operated from 6am to 6pm only.

Limbang Division Resident Sebi Abang said that the Sarawak and Sabah governments have decided to extend the operating hours as they are concerned about the plight of the people.

“The extension of operating hours is effective from Saturday (April 30).

“Merapok CIQ has been seeing traffic congestion since a week ago with long queues of cars and waiting time on both sides heading to Sabah and Sarawak in Lawas,” he told Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today.

With that, he said the Sarawak and Sabah governments, through their respective Immigration directors, have decided to extend operating hours to ease the movement of people between the two States.

Sebi, who is also Limbang Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) chairman, hopes that the extension will provide relief to all the people commuting between the border gates, especially before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. — DayakDaily
