KUCHING, July 19: The Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) has confirmed that the permit for logistic vehicles, such as lorries and cargo trucks, from Sarawak to enter Sabah has been extended from three months to one year.

CVLB Sabah chairwoman Vivian Wong Shir Yee conveyed this when leading a delegation on a courtesy visit to Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin at the Ministry’s office at Baitulmakmur Building, Petra Jaya today.

Wong noted that Sabah vehicles could already enter Sarawak with a one-year permit and emphasised that the previous three-month permit for Sarawak vehicles had caused significant inconvenience to Sarawak’s logistics industry.

A media release today stated that Lee had previously requested CVLB Sarawak to address this issue with its Sabah counterpart last year and had also communicated the matter with Malaysia’s Minister of Transport Anthony Loke following feedback from the Sarawak Lorries Transport Association (SLTA) and the Sarawak Forwarding Agencies Association (SFAA).

During the meeting, Lee provided an overview of Sarawak’s transportation industry and highlighted transformative initiatives, including the Kuching Urban Transport System (KUTS) with hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) and hydrogen buses.

Both parties also discussed transboundary transport issues involving Sarawak, Sabah, and neighbouring regions, including Brunei Darussalam and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

These matters will be further addressed at the upcoming BIMP-EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area) and Sosek Malindo (Social Economy Malaysia-Indonesia) meetings.

The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretary to the Sarawak Ministry of Transport Datu Wong Hee Sing, Sabah CVLB deputy chairman Datuk Musa Sulaiman, director Dairin Unsir, and other key officers. — DayakDaily
