According to S.O.S Kids president, Constance Leong Chui Man, the society spends more than RM120,000 annually to support critically sick children who need assistance to recover at home.
“This event not only marks a decade of transforming the lives of critically sick children but provides a unique opportunity to contribute to their future and well-being,” she said during the press conference held at the fundraising venue today.
Leong said that the fundraiser’s name, “Eat for the Purpose”, embodies the heart of this event, together with the joy of a delightful culinary experience created by Achang with the profound impact of philanthropy.
She added that their mission is twofold: to raise funds that further support the remarkable work of S.O.S Kids and to rejoice in the positive change they have brought to countless young lives and their families.
S.O.S Kids’ medical advisors Sarawak General Hospital pediatrician Dr Chor Yek Kee revealed that in the last 10 years, the society has supported 400 children.
” During that period, S.O.S Kids had fully supported 156 children for more than a minimum period of three months, and currently, it is actively supporting 22 children.
Dr Chor said these children are from low-income families, and the support is in the form of medical accessories and maintenance, medicine, and help with living conditions and utility bills.
“All these things are to enable these children to have a speedy recovery in a home environment after receiving medical treatment at government hospitals. Most of the children are between 3 to 5-years-old,” he said.
