KUCHING, Aug 7: The Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme emerged as one of the highlights during Sarawak Week at the Osaka Expo 2025, as the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts positioned the State as an ideal destination for those seeking a second home in Southeast Asia.
Held from Aug 4 to 10 at the Malaysia Pavilion, Sarawak Week served as a strategic platform to introduce the State’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and liveability to a global audience.
According to a media release today, the official delegation’s visit on Aug 6 aimed to raise Sarawak’s international profile through the promotion of its dynamic tourism offerings and residency incentives under the S-MM2H programme.
Leading the delegation was Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. He was joined by Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, as well as other senior ministry officials and representatives from the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
Throughout the Sarawak Week, visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion were treated to a series of cultural showcases, including live demonstrations of Buri weaving, a traditional Iban craft, alongside enchanting Sape music performances. These cultural highlights offered visitors an authentic taste of Sarawak’s indigenous heritage and diversity.

A key focus of the delegation’s engagement was the promotion of the S-MM2H programme, which offers long-term residency options for foreign nationals. Sarawak was spotlighted for its peaceful environment, affordability, and multicultural charm, making it an attractive choice for those looking to settle in Southeast Asia.
The Expo served as an effective platform to raise awareness and generate interest in the programme among global visitors and potential investors.
In addition to activities at the Malaysia Pavilion, the Sarawak delegation also visited several international pavilions, including those of Indonesia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, to explore tourism partnerships and cultural exchange opportunities.
The Ministry emphasised that the visit to Osaka Expo 2025 provided an important opportunity for Sarawak to highlight its cultural richness, creative talents, and quality of life on the global stage.
Through its participation, Sarawak demonstrated its openness and readiness to welcome the world whether as visitors, cultural partners, or long-term residents through initiatives such as the S-MM2H programme.
The ministry underscored its commitment to sustainable tourism, creative industry development, and global collaboration. Participation in the Osaka Expo 2025 marked a significant step forward in Sarawak’s mission to become a globally connected, culturally rich, and investor-friendly destination.
