KUCHING, June 30: Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) ticket sales have increased 35 per cent this year compared to the previous year (2023), says Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor at the media room at Damai Beach Resort here today.

She said it is only natural for any organiser to feel happy about the great reception with an ‘excellent’ number of festival goers.

Sharzede did not have the total number of visitors at hand and said she would prefer for Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to make the announcement.

“All I can say is that it (the number of visitors this year for RWMF) has surpassed the number of visitors this year in terms of revenue in selling our tickets and so forth,” she said when met by reporters.

As for the number of tourists visiting Sarawak, Sharzede revealed that Sarawak has received approximately two million foreign visitors as of May and is positive that the number will keep on increasing to meet the expected total, which is four million foreign tourists for 2024.

“Up to May, we have already reached two million (foreign visitors). And that’s only May. And we believe we are able to easily achieve the four million (foreign visitor target).

“But to ensure that we reach four million, you need to make sure there’s a lot of activities. Our best year was 4.6 million, but we believe that we are able to achieve the 4.6 million also (this year),” said Sharzede.

The dates for next year’s RWMF will also be announced by the end of today, which is the last day of this year’s festival. — DayakDaily
