KUCHING, May 10: The Royal Institution of Surveyor Malaysia (RISM) Sarawak branch is to be given autonomy from its national body.
RISM Sarawak Branch chairman Sharlene Toh said RISM will amend its constitution to ensure that the autonomy given will benefit its members.
“The proposed amendments seek to both formalise the long-standing practice of collecting membership subscription fees and to own property in the name of RISM Sarawak Branch in order to provide better services to our members and public in Sarawak,” she said during the RISM Sarawak 50th anniversary gala dinner at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (May 9).
She said the amendments also hoped to pave the way for the Sarawak branch to request and receive grants from the Sarawak government to enable them to have their own buildings.
“This will help us promote and enhance professional development and allow surveyors to play a more active role, professionally, in nation-building,” she added.
On another note, during the dinner, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg also launched the unveiling of the Kuching KM0 Monument in conjunction with RISM Sarawak’s 50th anniversary. — DayakDaily
