KUCHING, May 1: Royal Brunei Airlines’ inaugural direct flight from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, to Kuching touched down at about 8.45pm at Kuching International Airport (KIA) tonight.

Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd senior vice president (Passenger, Cargo and Charter Sales) Christina Chua said Flight BI855 operated at full capacity with some 141 passengers onboard.

“We are glad to be back, honestly,” she said when met by reporters at the KIA immigration hall today after arriving from Brunei onboard the flight herself.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer (CEO) Sharzede Salleh Askor expressed her excitement that Brunei-Kuching direct flights are now back in operation.

“Last time, the Brunei-Kuching flight operated seven times a week. Now, two times a week but in a bigger aircraft.

“We are very happy, of course. I think it’s still the beginning. You will see more direct flights coming into Sarawak,” she said. — DayakDaily
