MIRI, Jan 7: Miri MP Chiew Choon Man has backed Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing’s sentiments on letting Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim complete his five-year term as prime minister.
This was said amidst calls by the opposition for Anwar to resign over claims that he was concealing a royal addendum order that would allow former prime minister Dato Seri Mohd Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.
In a statement, Chiew, who is from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), warned that the political instability caused by frequent leadership changes in the past had proven detrimental to Malaysia’s development.
He emphasised the need for a peaceful and stable environment to foster economic growth, attract investment, and enhance the well-being of all Malaysians.
“All parties should prioritise the successful implementation of government policies and initiatives instead of pursuing destabilising agendas,” he said.
He also criticised PAS for sensationalising the issue to create societal tension and discord, stating that the party’s false allegations against the government served no constructive purpose and only sowed confusion and distrust among Malaysians.
“Such irresponsible behaviour detracts from meaningful political discourse, which should be focused on policies and initiatives to improve the lives of the Malaysian people and drive national development,” he added.
According to Sinar Harian, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has called on Anwar to resign as prime minister on claims that he has lost the authority and credibility to continue governing the country. — DayakDaily
