KUCHING, Jan 14: The repair works on SK Siniawan and SK Serembu’s roofs, blown away due to strong winds, will be conducted during the school holidays in February this year.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh clarified that he had engaged with relevant parties to resolve the matter. Still, the implementation took some time since it is bound by the financial procedures set by the government.
“We know that no matter what happens, we will fix these schools. We only need time.
“We also need the allocation from the government. When this involves government funding, there are certain financial procedures that we must abide by.
“The fund has been approved and channelled to Sarawak. Next, we would open the project tender in the near future,” he told reporters after a The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI) leadership forum entitled ‘Borneo Youth: Agent of Change in a New Malaysia’ at Riverside Majestic Astana Wing Hotel here today.
He stressed that the clarification was important after certain quarters had called on the authorities to take necessary action after no signs of physical repair work were seen at the schools.
He further said that the affected school buildings had been isolated, and students had been relocated to other classrooms for teaching and learning sessions.
“We will repair (the roofs). We already have the money. I guarantee that. I was informed (about it) by the Sarawak Education Department that we have the money,” he added.
On Nov 25 last year, Miro posted on his Facebook page that the roofs of the two schools were blown away due to strong winds. — DayakDaily
